Of course, you can visit North Conway, about 40 minutes north through beautiful scenic areas, to enjoy its dining establishments
and factory outlet stores.
MAJOR HINT FROM EXPERIENCE: During the seasons when many visitors go to North Conway (especially weekends during summer and fall foliage season) you can avoid
serious traffic delays by travelling to North Conway via Rt 153 and Rt 302, instead of Rt 16, as shown on
this small map (click for larger version)

Cross Country Skiing Galore!
Lots of places for cross country skiing, including the following nearby state forests with groomed trails.
Cross country ski out the door of Ossipee Lake House on Ossipee Lake or go up Long Sands Road to where the conservation trail starts at Constitution Park and tie into trails
Freedom Town Forest (Trout Pond) -- about 8 miles (14 minutes) from Ossipee Lake House.
This 2,600 acre forest has trails for use by snowmobiles, cross country skiers, and snowshoe hikers and joins other conservation areas to produce a 5,000 acre region. For a description of the Freedom Town Forest

Groomed XC and Snowshoe trails near Hemenway State ForestTamworth Outing Club groomed cross country skiing trails maps can be found by clicking on the adjacent image.
These trails are near the north edge of Hemenway State Forest.
Tamworth Outing Club groomed cross country skiing trails King Pine Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoe Reserve. Only 10 miles, about 15 minutes, from Ossipee Lake House for cross country and downhill skiing, ice skating, and snowshoeing.

Cross country skiing at King PineJackson Ski Touring Foundation (Jackson, NH)-- Largest cross country ski trail system in the Eastern United States. 154+ km of trails for all abilities interlace the village and wander
into the White Mountain National Forest. Rte 16 North to Jackson Village. Take second (northern) entrance Rte 16A into the village. The Jackson XC Base Lodge is located on 16A just north
of the community church. The xc ski trails are all over town.

Start at Ossipee Lake House and Drive Snowmobiles Directly to Trails Throughout New Hampshire!
Drive from Ossipee Lake House up Long Sands Road to where the conservation trail starts at Constitution Park and tie into trails
Long Sands Road is a public road maintained by the Town of Ossipee.
I checked with the Town and because Long Sands Road is so sparsely used permission is granted to drive snowmobiles down it to Constitution Park where the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club maintains a trail that leads to Ossipee Lake. Always be aware that Long Sands Road has automobile and truck traffic so stay close to the side of the road and proceed cautiously.
Going across Ossipee Lake leads to New Hampshire State Snowmobile Corridor 19.
Corridor 19 goes north to Canada and also leads to 100s of miles of other groomed snowmobile trails.
Trails from Constitution park also lead to trails going across Rt 25
Trails from Constitution park also lead to Abbott & Staples and Boyles Family Market where food and gasoline may be purchased
State law requires that all operators 12 years of age and over possess either a valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License or have successfully completed an approved OHRV or Snowmobile Safety Education Class, which may be done online. Other fun winter recreation opportunities at Ossipee Lake House
Ice Skating -- all of Ossipee Lake beckons for you, your family, and your guests to get out to ice skate.
Skate and then come up the deck and go through the sliding glass doors into the elegant warmth of the great room and have hot chocolate by the fireplace.

Snowshoeing -- easily done starting with Constitution Park up Long Sands Road and the
forest across the street from Ossipee Lake House. The wetlands/forest on the other side of Long Sands Road from Ossipee Lake House are part of the Ossipee Lake House grounds and that property joins the Ossipee Lake Natural Area.
All public New Hampshire trails are multipurpose, unless otherwise marked, so snowshoe along the sides of groomed snowmobile and cross country trails.
Excellent dining -- Close by (see map part way down the page found by clicking here) and also in North Conway, about 40 minutes up Route 16.
For starters we suggest:
Get outstanding morning coffee and fresh from the oven cinnamon rolls 5 minutes away at Abbott & Staples (out Long Sands Road to Rt 25, turn left, then less than a minute down Rt 25 to the store on the right). Get there early and pick up a bunch of freshly baked warm cinnamon rolls and bring them back to be a hero with the kids and adults.
Breakfast during the week at Rosie's Restaurant north on Rt 16 or at Lynnski's Restaurant next to Abbott & Staples. Both Rosie's and Lynnski's feature home-baked bread.
Dinner at Windy Fields Farm (just a little south on Rt. 16) or at Jake's Seafood & Grill (just north on Rt. 16) or at MountainView Station on the main road through Ossipee.
Sunday Brunch at Sunny Villa (south on Rt. 16) to have your custom omelettes and other good food in a room with panoramic views through walls of windows.

Year round Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm.
Great fun for kids of all ages as well as adults of all ages. Features a working farm with excellent guides describing the farm's operations
and equipment, with focus on the historic ways things are done. The house is both a museum and craft education center.

Wright Museum of World War II -- World War II changed our country and this museum features memorabilia of American life from 1939 to 1945 and is dedicated to celebrating Americans' sacrifices and achievements during WW II. Portland Head Light -- the museum is closed during the winter but the lighthouse grounds and the fort next to the lighthouse are open year-round.
